HEALTH MATTERS WITH DR HANNA ROBBINS
What is a Primary Care Network?BEHIND the scenes of your local GP Surgeries there is a hive of activity, with lots of networking and collaboration between neighbouring practices and other community services, to better understand your needs and how you want to access healthcare services. This week, Dr Rushman explains the role that Primary Care Networks (PCNs) play in getting the right services to you, at the right time, and in the right place. Over to Dr Rushman:
The local GP Practices in Northwest Leicestershire are part of a Primary Care Network (PCN). These are Organisations made up of all the local practices.
Our PCN is made up of 12 local practices from Ibstock in the South to Castle Donington in the North. This includes both large and small Practices and allows allofustohavea say in how we want our local services to be run.
Dr Mayes from Long Lane is one of the Associated Directors. It has been great to work closer with other Practices that share the same issues and to share our many different solutions. The PCN runs the things that our local Practices do together. This includes The COVID Vaccination Hub at Measham, the local Out of Hours Service at Loughborough Hospital and the Anticoagulation Service.
The PCN is also instrumental in getting Pharmacists and Physiotherapists into our local surgeries to help improve our service for you. The push from the Department of Health is that more services will be commissioned via the PCN to ensure a fair and equal spread of resources across all practices.
We are very pleased to be part of one of the most organised and forward thinking PCNs in the Midlands, and to have Dr Mayes involved.
