Eye problems
There are three options for getting help with eye problems:
- Your local community pharmacy
- The local Urgent Eyecare Service at Specsavers in Ashby
- Eye Casualty at Leicester Royal Infirmary
These are self-referral pathways, so you or a carer will need to contact the provider directly.
See your community pharmacy for
- Dry eyes
- Conjunctivitis
- Itchy irritated eyes
Specsavers in Ashby can deal with
- Red or painful eye or eyelids
- Recent onset of flashes or floaters
- Recent or sudden loss of vision
- Foreign body in the eye

Eye Casualty
- For other eye problems

- Open until 4pm
- They will provide advice, or arrange to see you
For urgent eye problems after 4pm, please go to the Emergency Department
Urgent problems which can’t wait until tomorrow, include:
- Sudden change in vision
- Sudden loss of vision
- A red eye which is also painful
- Eye symptoms in someone who uses contact lenses
- Eye pain which is worse with eye movements
- Eye pain with a headache behind the eye
- Injury of the eye, including chemical injury
