Eye problems

There are three options for getting help with eye problems:

  1. Your local community pharmacy
  2. The local Urgent Eyecare Service at Specsavers in Ashby
  3. Eye Casualty at Leicester Royal Infirmary

These are self-referral pathways, so you or a carer will need to contact the provider directly.

 
See your community pharmacy for
  • Dry eyes
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Itchy irritated eyes
 
Specsavers in Ashby can deal with
  • Red or painful eye or eyelids
  • Recent onset of flashes or floaters
  • Recent or sudden loss of vision
  • Foreign body in the eye

Urgent Eyecare Service (UES) covers sudden onset eye problems (primaryeyecare.co.uk)

 
Eye Casualty
  • For other eye problems
  • Phone 0116 2586273
  • Open until 4pm
  • They will provide advice, or arrange to see you
 
For urgent eye problems after 4pm, please go to the Emergency Department

Urgent problems which can’t wait until tomorrow, include:

  • Sudden change in vision
  • Sudden loss of vision
  • A red eye which is also painful
  • Eye symptoms in someone who uses contact lenses
  • Eye pain which is worse with eye movements
  • Eye pain with a headache behind the eye
  • Injury of the eye, including chemical injury
